Experience – Engage – Empower is the theme of Ecumenical Young Adults. This group is made up of young adults from three UCC Conference —Pennsylvania Southeast, Penn Central, Penn Northeast — and the Northeast Pennsylvania Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. However, the membership is open and we hope to include more groups in the future. Members are usually young adults between18 – 40 years of age, who have strong interestsand/or gifts for ministry.
The group’s first event, entitled “Experience, Engage, Empower,” took place in March, 2007 at First UCC in Quakertown. The focus was recognizing opportunities to make a difference in one’s community and world, with speakers on topics as diverse as community gardening, the impact of HIV/AIDS, disaster response, and storytelling as a spiritual practice. The event concluded with worship led by Rev. Derick Wilson, pastor of Healing Stream UCC in Philadelphia and the Navigators Band from Penn State.
Subsequent planned gatherings included a hike to the Pinnacle (Hamburg area) in April 14, a Murder Mystery Dinner Theater in the Philadelphia area (Without a Cue Productions), and a picnic in the Allentown area in June.
